Save the Norwegian Theatre Academy (NTA)
The Norwegian Theatre Academy at Østfold University College in Fredrikstad, is at risk of being shut down when the University College needs to make significant budget cuts for 2025.
THIS MUST NOT HAPPEN!
The Academy has been a pioneering performing arts education in Norway and has gained significant influence with its experimental approach to the field. Countless innovative and creative students have graduated from the program and have significantly influenced the Norwegian theater and performing arts landscape.
The Academy has brought a diversity of voices and expressions, and Norwegian performing arts, in general, would be much poorer without these artists. The students who have graduated from the school have also represented an internationalization of the field as the education has attracted students and guest teachers from around the world! The school has a high reputation internationally and has also played a role in the development of the performing arts landscape in other countries, especially in Denmark and Sweden.
The Norwegian Theatre Academy shares a national responsibility for educating actors and has the country's only scenography education at BA and MA level, thus has a national obligation. In June this year, the Academy, together with the film school at HiNN and the University of Tromsø, accredited a joint PhD degree in artistic research, which is in the establishment phase and strengthens their position at all three levels, BA, MA, and PhD.
Without the Norwegian Theatre Academy, Norwegian theater and performing arts will be significantly poorer! The school's experimental profile and methodology will be missing, making the future of Norwegian theater more streamlined.
